FT Leisure’s Newark Project Opens
The new £9.4m leisure centre in Balderton on the outskirts of Newark is now open. The new facility has replaced the outdated Grove Leisure Centre which was built in 1968.
The 4,260m² two-storey building includes a 25-meter, six lane swimming pool and a 20 x 8.5 meter teaching pool, as well as a four-court sports hall, squash courts and an 850 sq. meter fitness suite.
FT Leisure provided the water treatment and filtration systems as well as poolside water features and two Poolpod disabled access systems – wheelchair-users and swimmers with disabilities will be able to use the automatic platforms to lower themselves in and out of the pools independently. An innovation on the filtration systems of both swimming pools is the inclusion of automated backwash, which makes the regular maintenance of the sand filters just a simple turn of a switch for the operator rather than manually adjusting valves and pumps.
The client for the project was Newark & Sherwood District Council. The project manager was Turner Townsend, the main contractor was R. G. Carter and the architect was Watson Batty.
FT Leisure creates safe, enjoyable and functional swimming environments, through innovative products and professional technical services to the commercial, municipal and private swimming pool industries. Their range of services includes the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, refurbishment and maintenance of water treatment and filtration systems, moveable floors, booms and disabled access platforms, leisure water features and rides, luxury spa and wellness facilities and a range of pool tank solutions.
Other recent F T Leisure projects include Haberdasher’s Aske’s Boy’s School, Oldham Leisure Centre, De Vere Gardens (Kensington), Manchester City Football Academy and Latymer Upper School.
