Qatar pool expansion captures the imagination
The race is on from specialist companies who want to grab a stake in the huge pool and spa expansion in Qatar.
A new event on the calendar – The Qatar International Exhibition for Swimming Pools and Spas (QPS) is to be held in Doha on 7 to 9 October this year.
The show has already attracted huge interest from US and European companies, mainly because of the expansion which is planned in terms of the infrastructure of swimming pools over the next decade and beyond.
Showcasing a complete range of pool and spa products, the event aims to capitalise on the boost in both commercial and domestic leisure-related activities following the country’s successful bid to stage the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Qatar expects to open 300 new spas in the next five years, for example, and is spending tens of billions in upgrading its leisure infrastructure. One estimate says that over 1000 new pools will be build in the next 10 years as hotels upgrade their pools and many more invest in leisure club facilities.
Organised by Heights for Exhibitions and Conferences, QPS 2012 is billed as a gateway to the “fastest and most promising economy in the Gulf”.
